Throughout the month of July we have been talking about the different definitions of connection and the various impacts each version can have. As this month comes to a close, I would like to keep this short and sweet so you can break away from your screen and really connect with someone.

Connecting can be easy - a simple understanding smile, a heartfelt hug, or an open ear. It can also be difficult because to truly connect with someone we need to be willing to make our selves vulnerable. We need to be real. We need to be open.  Brené Brown says, "I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”  Beautiful.

Did you know that having social connections can strengthen our immune system and lead to lower rates of anxiety and depression? Plus, people with strong social connections tend to have higher self esteem, stronger emotional and physical well being, and apparently live longer. Yes, please!

If you are someone who struggles socially or perhaps lives very remotely, don't panic. Apparently to gain the benefits from human connection, the most important thing is an internal sense of connection because the feeling is completely subjective. As long as we feel connected we can gain the benefits... which means that online communities can actually help here. When you can connect with people who are facing the same challenges, triumphs, or situations, connecting on any level can be hugely beneficial.

Just be real. Be you. Be open. Be understanding and compassionate. And go and connect in whatever way is best for you. Do it for your health ;-)

For those of you looking for more information on the next Ireland retreat, Gisele says she will be posting an update in early August. Stay tuned!

With Love and Gratitude,

Gala
