Mindful Necessities

The only true necessity to mindfulness is befriending your breath like your life depends on it.

It seems like the world is getting more and more stressed and we’re forgetting to breathe until we can no longer think. The greatest tool to de-stressing our lives is to breathe deeply, rhythmically, intentionally until we become one with it, our bodies and our gratitude.

I founded Mindful Necessities as a dedication to support education in mindful practice and meditation foremost; to become a world that finds happiness through inquiry and wholeness.

There is chaotic and frenetic energy that many of us wake up to every day and it’s good to be reminded that it coexists with peace and beauty everywhere and all the time. Mindful Necessities create or curate articles that remind you to go there.  See the best in the best, see the best in the worst.  I am personally very grateful to have something tangible to hang on to that can help me focus and feel centred in my life. I’m not saying I live without struggles and suffering. I suffer just like everyone, and when I do, I am happy to have tools around my home and on my body that can help me reflect on healing what has become imbalanced.  It might be a meditation bench or cushion for a nook at home that became sacred space and invites me to sit and expand my meditation practice. It’s a joy to have white sage to smudge and clean the stagnant energy in the air. More often than not I’ll wear a mala that holds my intention, a spinning meditation ring that soothes my nerves or a piece of jewellery with an engraved poetic message that helps me reflect on what I need to see.

We work with that objective in the studio for you as well.  All these touchstones are created with the highest intention, integrity and sustainability possible. Everything is priced according to our investment of material, time and energy. I hope you can find what you need, if and when you need it to feel ignited in your heart centre and your purpose.

From my heart to yours, stay blessed.

the heads down generation
the heads down generation

by Gisele Theriault March 24, 2019

The Heads Down Generation generally refers to those born after the 80’s but I would say the majority of the population is affected by the lure of our devices. Look around you in public places. Everywhere, people are almost qualified in their lives by their connection to a world that lives in their phone. We are losing the ability to be connected with one another where we are. We are even losing the map to the heart of who we are.  Depression and anxiety are on the rise. We are identifying with a digital world we have no empathetic connection to. The sense of who we think we should be to fit in and be accepted by others is currently framed by social media, celebrities and corporate branding. This makes my heart sink.

what is the spiritual solution to the violence in the world?
what is the spiritual solution to the violence in the world?

by Gisele Theriault March 17, 2019

It’s been an wonderful month so far in Rishikesh. My aspiration here was to do as little as possible. As an over doer this is a great task and not at all easy. Beyond attending satsangs (teachings) and meditation intensives, just being present with the vastness and colours of humanity in the mountains and on the Ganges is enough to change your life.

During a satsang with ShantiMayi someone asked the question for a magazine article she was writing on how spirituality can help the violence in the world.  ShantiMayi started with clarifying that in sanskrit, one of the oldest languages of scriptures there was no word for spiritual. Spiritual is life...

the gift and power of retreats
the gift and power of retreats

by Gisele Theriault March 10, 2019

Lately I've been thinking of why I feel so strongly about curating or attending retreats. There is nothing like a retreat to give us a focused opportunity to pull back from our life as we know it and all the demands and stresses that limit us.This in itself should be enough. To pull back far enough to be a witness and objective friend to our own lives is added sweet medicine. When we are away from routine and inspired it's easier to live between our heart and our gut (the second brain) and give the mind a vacation of its own for awhile.
