Tucson Gem Show - malas in the making

First and foremost I hope my note finds you breathing deeply with peace, purpose and joy.

The Tucson Gem show is wrapping today and has been remarkable once again. The mineral and fossil kingdom is communicated here in every conceivable way. Imagine the history and knowledge these ancient crystals would have been witness to.  So much wisdom that invites us to break through our obstacles and feel propelled by the power and beauty of our own lives.

Seeing the gemstones in their raw nakedness allows me to appreciate the properties of the gem beads all the more.

I'll be back in the studio mid week and we will begin the new malas within the next couple of weeks with great anticipation. I found most of the stones that were requested and then some nice surprises. If you requested special stones for a mala I'll be in touch when they arrive on Canadian soil.  I found beautiful quality amethyst, rose quartz, moonstone, lapis, kyanite, citrine, apatite, amazonite, onyx, picture jasper, kunzite, labradorite, and yellow opal. I'm ecstatic to see these beads turned into malas. I will also bring back more shungite pyramids and the best palo santo you'll ever find.

sending you as always, love, a lotus and a smile,

Gisele

This amethyst geode made me feel very small in all ways... Thank you Naomi for being a remarkable companion on the quest for stones. xo Naomi specializes in opals and compliments them in very organic designs . Having seen the stunning opals she acquired and the love of creating I'll look forward to see what evolves.  http://opalwingcreations.com/

On the topic of retreats, a friend recently shared scientific research she found (brain scans incl. long term studies of individuals) comparing mindfulness/meditation practice in retreat settings confer more benefits than daily practice. If you take two individuals with identical lifetime hours of meditation practice, there are more lasting changes in people who have gone on retreats (brains and behaviour).

This week I was thinking about how challenging it can be to be who we are and live in our place of heart when there are so many directives and expectations that we should behave in a particular way. How we present ourselves to the world and how we think are so influenced by our upbringing, peers and culture...

Mindful Necessities West to East

Rumi says "Let the beauty of what we love be what we do." I'm counting my blessings, both having carved a life by creating contemplative jewellery and now also enjoying the opportunity to create experience for people though retreats.

It took a long time for my body and mind to readjust from east to west, as it always does. Between the 10 hour time difference and the culture extremes, the practice of coupling patience and tenacity definitely came in handy.
